The Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5 L is something of a mixed bag. The lens is surely able to provide a decent performance in all important characteristics but that's without delivering anything stellar ... which is something you may expect from a lens in this price class. The most fascinating aspects are naturally the tilt-shift functions and if this is a requirement for you there're simply no alternatives in this focal length class.

I stopped carrying my 17-35L in lieu of the TS24, because I shoot mostly in cities, rife with verticals that are either crying to be corrected or screwed up. But I find that even in party pix, you can show the huge spread on the table from a pot-luck dinner while rendering the verticals more-or-less accurately. In general, I leave the shift fully unlocked, pushing the lens up and down by hand in lieu of daintily cranking it. I leave the tilt locked and more or less alone.

Use the Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5 L Tilt-Shift Lens as a normal 24mm lens (a manual focus one of course) or adjust the tilt, shift and rotation to creative perfection. Plan on needing some behind-the-camera time to get used to the adjustments and capabilities of this lens. A digital body will be a huge help in understanding the exposure variances.
