The 135/2.8 SF makes a top-notch portrait lens, a great travel lens, and a highly useful focal length to have around for compressed landscapes and such. It's light and compact, focuses fast and precisely, works great wide-open, and at the magic f/8 it's sharp enough to satisfy even the pickiest of critics.

The Canon EF 135mm f/2.8 SF may be old but it was still able to delivery very good performance figures in all aspects. Nonetheless there´re many lenses including zooms which are capable to deliver similar and even better. So at the end of the day the only real differentiator is the softfocus feature.

Set at 0 (no effect), the Canon EF 135mm f/2.8 With Softfocus Lens is reasonably sharp wide open (f/2.8) and shows some improvement as it is stopped down. Corner sharpness trails the center of the frame by a stop or so. So this is a sharp soft-focus lens? As Canon carefully denotes this lens as being "With Softfocus", a soft focus setting of 0 allows this lens to function like a standard 135mm lens.
