As most macro lenses are very sharp, so is Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro Lens. In fact, it is probably best-known for being sharp. It is sharp wide open and shows a little improvement when stopped down (most notably in the corners).

Both lenses display excellent sharpness and contrast, and the only significant advantage the Canon has is in it’s vastly superior flare control. Other differences are fairly minor.

With Tamron’s Di technology controlling internal reflections, the optic minimizes flare very well, and the lens produced sharp and beautiful images on my D-SLR.

This lens will not disappoint you with its sharpness, which is a match for its competition especially wide open.

The Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di SP is a superb lens without any significant flaw. In fact optically it is every bit as good, maybe even slightly better than the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM macro.
