The SX100 features a 10X zoom lens, optical image stabilization, full manual controls, and a VGA movie mode. Downsides include a weak, slow-charging flash, no multi-point autofocus, and the inability to swap memory cards while the camera is on a tripod. Despite a few flaws, the SX100 is still an impressive camera for the money (around $250), and it's one I can recommend.

The SX100 IS offers reliable image quality, a big zoom range and a good variety of photographic controls in a relatively compact body at a very competitive price. If you don't mind the slow flash recycling times (which somewhat limit the camera's use as a social snapshot tool) the SX100 IS is a perfect piece of equipment for anyone wanting to cover a large variety of photographic situations without breaking the bank or carrying a backpack full of lenses.

The Canon PowerShot SX100 IS feels good in the hand, the field shooting experience is quite enjoyable, and the feature set can make for some great images, provided you stick to the low ISOs.

Overall, the PowerShot SX100IS is an enjoyable, versatile, and very well thought-out digital camera. A truly powerful zoom lens really frees you to get close to action you might otherwise have missed, and optical image stabilization ensures that when you do, the shots won't be a blurry mess.
